Redpath Deilmann sank and equipped two freeze shafts with Herrenknecht’s fully mechanized Shaft Boring Roadheader (SBR).
The Nezhinsky Mine shaft involved the development of two 700 m freeze shafts with concrete and steel tubbing liners, and approximately 9,000 m of horizontal excavations.
An average of 3 m/day was sunk, with a peak performance of over 7 m/day. This was the first project to use the Herrenknecht SBR, allowing simultaneous excavating and lining without exposure to the shaft bottom. Redpath Deilmann's engineers designed and built the entire sinking plant and all surface facilities.
The ground conditions for this project were particularly challenging making ground freezing necessary.
Redpath's patented hydraulic curb ring was successfully introduced on the job.
