Jwaneng Mine

Situated 160 kilometres west of Gaborone in Botswana, the Jwaneng Mine is one of the richest diamond mines in the world. Redpath is undertaking the transition from open pit to underground with portal, decline development, and shaft construction.

The project involves establishing three portals and exploration access declines within the existing open pit, along with the development of two additional declines and a primary ventilation shaft. The comprehensive scope of work includes construction of the underground facilities such as muck bays, sumps, pump stations, decline connectors, ventilation fan stations, and underground workshops. A strip-lined 7.5m ventilation shaft will also be constructed, intersecting one of the declines.

To support operations in Botswana, Redpath established a local entity and is implementing local worker and skills transfer programs to maximize national workforce development. A dedicated citizen empowerment and ownership program has been introduced to further support the development of the local economy and communities.
