The Grosvenor Mine is located 5 km north of the township of Moranbah and was established to extract coal from the Goonyella Middle Seam by conventional longwall methods.

At Grosvenor Mine, Redpath Australia excavated both the conveyor and transport drifts utilizing an earth pressure balance tunnel boring machine (TBM).

This was the first use of a TBM approved for drift construction, in an underground coal mine in Queensland.
